Uzbekistan’s city-museum of Bukhara is a UNESCO world heritage site, inhabited for at least 5,000 years. When we visited we roamed unpaved streets that meandered between crumbling but still magnificent ancient sites. These pictures are from the March 1992 trip. Bukhara, a centre of trade, scholarship, culture and religion was on the Silk Road.
